About Glanrafon Farm
We are a small family run farm situated in the beautiful Vale of Clwyd at the
foot of the Clwydian range. Though only a small
business we concentrate on the quality of our product both in
providing a happy and full life for our pigs but also in producing a top quality
meat with a distinct and full flavour.

A
Little About Us
There
are four of us involved in the business. Made up of Jennifer (mum), Cisa
and Gemma (her daughters) and Martin, Gemma's husband... and of course their
3 year old son, Tomos. We each have our separate roles within the
business, but hopefully that's what keep's it running like
clockwork!
Martin
is the farmer, without him there would be no business. Martin has
always
farmed and when he joined the Borsey Household he brought with him his love of
farming. Though (initially) not a big lover of pigs, he bought two for his
wife Gemma a few Christmas' ago as she had always loved them. As the herd
of pigs grew so did
Martin's fondness for them!
Gemma
is a primary school teacher so helps out when she can: mucking
out, feeding and keeping all the registration details in order.
Jennifer is a retired nurse whose main occupation now is her flock of Hampshire
Downs. She is also the Gofer, as the rest of us all work full time.
She does most of the errands and packs most of the meat ready to be delivered.
I (Cisa)
pretty much fill in the gaps! I take the orders, do all the paperwork, PR
and promotion and and anything that involves the computer or accounting! I
also work full time as an Operations & Accounts manager for a family run
business called The Patchwork Traditional Food Company.
We all
muck in and juggle everything in between looking after Tomos, who mucks in
himself where he can!
Our Pigs
Our pigs have full run of orchards rich in damsons, wild garlic, acorns, crab
apples and bracken amongst other trees and shrubs. It is the variety of plants
available to our pigs that we believe gives our pork its distinct and unusual
flavour.
We currently have 5 breeding sows - Holly, Bramble, Apple, Hazel
& Cranberry. All our sows and boars are registered so all our pork has
full traceability –they
can be traced back to the point of birth and every stage in between.
We have our own boars – ‘Carl’
and 'Clifford' so we never use artificial insemination.
Everything is done the ‘natural’ way!
They travel just over 5 miles to slaughter, a rarity due to diminishing pig
slaughterhouses. The reduced stress and length of journey ensures that even at
the end our pigs have a stress free environment. All our pigs are around 4-5 months
of age at slaughter.

A member of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, we aim to promote the British
Saddleback and help prevent it from becoming a rare breed. They are
currently in the 'at risk' category on the RBST register.
